It’s never an easy decision to sell your house. Maybe you need to upgrade to a bigger one because you have a new family member on the way. Maybe you need to move for a new job. There are a number of reasons why it might be time to list your home. But with that comes a few things that you need to do first.
You’re going to want to make your home as desirable as possible for potential buyers. While you probably think your aesthetic choices are the best, that just isn’t the case. Everyone is going to have their own opinions and it’s your job to help them envision themselves living in the home. When it comes to your bedroom, there are a few proven changes you can make to appeal more to future homeowners.

Making that bedroom a suite
Adding a bathroom or improving the one already there is a big boost

If you don’t have enough room to build an on-bedroom suite, you can consider one of the other options. This also applies to anyone who already has a master bathroom they are happy with.
One of the best ways to improve your bedroom is to potentially add a master bathroom to it. While this may be difficult, given space or budget, it does boost your selling potential.
That’s because being able to walk a short distance from your bed to the bathroom is a luxury. If you’ve had to share a hallway bathroom with other rooms on the floor, you know how frustrating it can be. Having to wait your turn as someone else is using the facilities can be an unbelievable downer.
If you have a master bathroom, it simplifies your day immensely. You’ll have more privacy and you can enjoy more time to yourself when you’re getting ready, as people won’t be banging on the door wanting to get in.
For those that already have a master bathroom, there are additions you can make to the bathroom that will boost its appeal. Adding a new vanity or replacing any mirror will lock in more value. A bidet is the type of bathroom upgrade that people may not think of right away, but is definitely worth trying for improving your home’s worth.
You can also try changing out the shower head. If you want to upgrade to a rainfall shower head, those tend to deliver better return on investment, as they are seen as more modern and luxurious.
Add in built-in storage
Change your closet to a better layout

When we moved into our home, the master bedroom had two sets of closets. However, there were strange shelving units that had partitions in the middle that basically blocked them from being functional closets for anything other than perhaps face cloths. The shelves were so narrow, you could barely fit anything on them.
We overhauled both closets and installed closet systems with hanging rods, shelving, baskets, and more. I got the smaller closet compared to my wife, mainly because she just simply has more clothes than I do. We took out the old storage shelves and put these new ones in.
We also removed the doors, which I then cut up and disposed of when the time came, from the closet to give it an open look, which also makes it easier to get items from it. I have most of my clothes in my closet, with others in the dresser to the right of the closet. It’s worked well for us to add this storage.
Adding something like a built-in storage unit that makes it look like it was a part of the room’s design is another good idea. This can be a bigger undertaking and will cost you more. But it does provide a pleasing aesthetic to future buyers.
Upgrading the lighting
Having a new ceiling fan is a boost too
I tend to run hot, not matter what time of year it is. So, it was very important to me that the homes I was looking at had ceiling fans in the rooms when we were looking at houses. To be able to pull a chain or flick a switch and cold air can be instantly streaming at you is something I cherish.
Every bedroom and many other rooms in our home had ceiling fans when we moved in. We have already swapped out three of them for newer and more modern ones, with a fourth one soon to happen. We’ve been using ChatGPT to help us figure out what that one could look like.
Having a ceiling fan that can be used with the dimmer switches that are in every room of my house meant being able to control the fan with ease. But each one that we’ve changed out also has a remote control to make it more dynamic. What I like about the remote control is that you can change the direction of the blades for both winter and summer, allowing you to blow cold air downward or circulate colder air upward at different times of year.
If you’re changing out the fan, you’re also upgrading the lights. If you don’t want to change out a ceiling fan, adding more modern lighting to your bedroom will improve its selling point of view. Whether this is with lamps, hanging lights, or through the bulbs in the recessed lighting on the ceiling, you can upgrade how the room looks with ease.
Replacing the windows can help the noise
It might set you back a penny though

Making sure your windows are sealed will save you money on your heating bill. Windows can last up to 50 years, but plenty of them start to wear down around 20 years into their life cycle.
The seals start to crack or loosen, allowing air to come in and leave your home. This causes your air or heat to have to run more frequently and harder to maintain the temperature that you want. This makes your bill upward unfortunately.
Getting window replacements is expensive but it is worth it. If you can say that your window were recently changed out, that’s something that a future buyer know that they won’t have to do any time soon, making them not worry about the bedroom as much and focus on what kind of projects they can do in other rooms of the house.
Do more in your bedroom to get more out of your house
If you want to boost the sale’s price of your home, you have to think about what other people might want. You should consider painting it a neutral color to give them the idea that they have a blank canvas to work with. Make sure all the light bulbs are the same color, so you don’t have off white or yellow competing with one another. Consider small and large changes for your bedroom.
