HBO’s A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms – the Game of Thrones spin-off based on George R.R. Martin’s beloved Tales of Dunk and Egg – is finally here, premiering January 18 on HBO and Max (January 19 in many regions).
While the streamer doesn’t offer a free tier, there is a sneaky loophole: new subscribers to YouTube TV can snag a free trial that includes HBO Max, letting you stream the first episodes without paying a dime.
Fans on Twitter/X are buzzing about the series’ heartfelt lead performances, with live discussion threads already popping up ahead of the Sunday night drop at 10pm ET on HBO Max (3am Monday on Sky in the UK).
How to watch A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms for free
Set your VPN back to your usual US location and you’ll find that you can sign up to YouTube TV’s free trial (be sure to add HBO Max to the free trial offer).
A word of warning: You’ll need a strong VPNs (not a cheap/free one). We tested the likes of NordVPN (try risk-free), Surfshark VPN (free trial) and Express VPN – all do the trick.
Use a VPN to access YouTube TV from abroad
NordVPN is our best VPN (we actually have our own in-house expert, Mike, who tests VPNs 24/7 and he rates NordVPN top for price, features, security, etc).
We also find Nord works best for streaming – allowing you to access your domestic streaming services when abroad.

Conclusion
Early buzz around A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms suggests this latest Game of Thrones prequel may not hit the stratospheric numbers of its predecessors — but it’s still a big deal for HBO and Max.
Critics have given the six-episode first season generally favorable reviews, with Rotten Tomatoes reporting an 87% approval rating, Metacritic scoring it 75/100, and our own TechRadar rating it 4/5, reflecting solid audience interest.
While official viewership figures haven’t been released yet, HBO’s early renewal for season 2 ahead of the premiere is a strong vote of confidence in the swords ‘n’ sex saga.
Knight of Seven Kingdoms streams on HBO Max in the US, and on Sky Atlantic/Now in the UK, Crave in Canada, and OSN+ across the Middle East and North Africa – but I found a secret way to watch HBO Max for free and stream the Game of Thrones spinoff for free.
Not usually US-based? You can also get a free trial of OSN Plus in Saudi Arabia. Again, you’ll need a VPN to sign up and watch Knight of Seven Kingdoms free.
