The Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 is receiving the January 2026 security update. The update is reportedly only rolling out to the non-cellular (Wi-Fi + Bluetooth) variant. Beyond security, this seems to be a much-awaited update, as many users were reportedly complaining about issues after the One UI 8 Watch update.
Galaxy Watch 5 is receiving the January 2026 security update in Europe
The fresh update to the Galaxy Watch 5 weighs around 147.29MB in size and carries the firmware version R910XXU1DYLA. The January 2026 security update brings fixes to a total of 57 vulnerabilities present in the previous version of the OS. This means your wearable is more secure than before.
Besides that, many users were reportedly facing issues with the One UI 8 Watch update. There were problems like battery draining quickly and lag in the system. In some cases, sensors were not functioning properly. Samsung reportedly promised to fix these, and it appears that the Galaxy Watch 5 is the first to get it.
More than just a security update
Though Samsung only says “better system stability,” it apparently does more than that by addressing the issues. Sammmyfans report that the watch feels faster and responds better when swiping and tapping through the UI. The lag in Quick Settings and Tiles is now apparently much less. The battery performance is also reportedly improved.
The update is reportedly live in Europe, but we can expect it to roll out in other regions in the coming days. You can update your Galaxy Watch 5 by opening the Galaxy Wearable app and heading to Watch Settings > Watch software update > Download and install. It appears that other Galaxy smartwatches are yet to receive this update.
