Garmin makes some of the most advanced and full-featured smartwatches and wearables on the market, and its latest, the Tactix 8 Cerakote, is the watch you want if you’re looking for something to satisfy your tactical desires. Garmin’s YouTube video goes full tilt into the military-style theme, resulting in something that seems like it’s a watch pulled straight out of a Call of Duty game. It features a kill switch, a stealth mode, and access to a ballistics feature that can tell you everything from wind speed to elevation to help you hit your shots down range.
The watch also comes with a ceramic coating called Cerakote that’s typically used on firearms to help with wear and tear and longevity. Garmin says the coating is sprayed onto the case and baked on to help with durability. It’s all pretty snazzy tech. That’s also precisely why it retails for a whopping $1,599.
The Garmin Tactix 8 Cerakote comes with a kill switch to wipe your data
You’re probably familiar with a kill switch for things like vehicles, which would simply kill the engine. The kill switch on the Tactix 8 Cerakote doesn’t work anything like that. It deletes all of your data, and to be quite honest, in today’s world, that’s not a bad thing. It’s peace of mind knowing that if you ever needed to, you could hit the kill switch on this watch and wipe the data from it.
The watch also features a Stealth Mode. This turns off wifi capabilities while also halting the storing and sharing of your GPS location. It also turns off communication capabilities. There’s even a night vision mode that makes the watch compatible with night vision goggles. Of course, it also has Garmin’s excellent topographical maps access, as well as the standard features you’d expect from a smartwatch, like phone notifications, calling capabilities, and apps like Garmin Pay. It also has a built-in flashlight and is designed for recreational diving up to a 40-meter depth. Plus, it has up to 29 days of battery life in smartwatch mode.
