Garbage time
OK, here comes extended garbage time and Maye tries to get out of this thing alive. There’s 3:36 left and the QB’s run was just cancelled out by a holding call. Can we speed this thing up?

Nwosu gets famous.

TOUCHDOWN! Seahawks 29-7 Patriots, 4:27 4th quarter
Maye is hit by Witherspoon! Maye drops the ball! Nwosu has it and is running to the end zone! And now he’s in the end zone! The Hawks’ seventh sack ensures a second Super Bowl title for Seattle! Wow!

Seahawks 22-7 Patriots, 4:40 4th quarter
Sweet Caroline playing? Does Seattle sing that song or is that elite trolling?
Anyway, Maye is sacked. It’s the sixth of the game, with a four-man rush, and now Maye has been sacked 21 times in these playoffs. That’s kind of a lot!
It’s 3rd & 8. Four down territory here of course, but they don’t need it. Maye hits Henry for 16 yards over the middle. First down!
Share
FIELD GOAL! Seahawks 22-7 Patriots, 5:35 4th quarter
It’s good and we have a new Super Bowl record – Myers’ five field goals! It’s not sexy, but it’s effective. MVP! MVP!

Seahawks 19-7 Patriots, 5:38 4th quarter
The Patriots hold, and the Seahawks’ Myers comes out for a chance at a fifth field goal.

Seahawks 19-7 Patriots, 6:40 4th quarter
Walker is rumbling and stumbling, patiently waiting for the hole to appear, and he does eventually find it! Now Walker has 24 yards on this drive as Seattle inch closer to the endzone. They’re on the Pats 12-yard line.

INTERCEPTION! Seahawks 19-7 Patriots, 8:09 4th quarter
All the momentum for New England and then Maye throws it right into coverage and it’s an easy catch for Love, who plays for the other team! He returns it 35 yards and just like that, all this Patriot progress is done and dusted. Wow!
Share
Seahawks 19-7 Patriots, 9:05 4th quarter
Now NE are at the 20 after a short reception and Maye is scrambling up the middle! It’s a 20-yard run to the 40! NE on the move!
Share
Seahawks 19-7 Patriots, 10:02 4th quarter
Maye misses a WIDE OPEN Hooper – that would have been a touchdown for sure! Seattle blew the coverage!
So 2nd down – Stevenson has a catch and a first down on the far sideline to the 17!

Seahawks 19-7 Patriots, 10:55 4th quarter
Seattle on their 41, and there’s pressure on Darnold who chucks it into the turf. And here’s an absolutely huge 3rd & 11.
Darnold is going for it all! He throws the ball way WAY downfield to Shaheed who is open! But the ball is too long – incomplete!
The Pats force a three-and-out. The punt isn’t caught so the ball rolls to the four.
Gulp. Long field for NE, but they have a chance!

Seahawks 19-7 Patriots, 11:41 4th quarter
Darnold rolls right and fires, complete, to Shaheed! First down! And now Smith-Njiba is out of concussion protocol and into the lineup – a huge plus for Seattle as momentum was turning some.

Seahawks 19-7 Patriots, 12:24 4th quarter
Well now Drake Maye and company have forced us to re-calibrate some. How much? That depends if NE’s defense can make a play. Can they make a play? Come on, make a play!

Christopher Lee says:
“It felt like there would always be a ‘but’ that followed Darnold around if he managed to win a Superbowl without scoring a touchdown, so you have to be happy for him. An amazing turnaround, you would have got huge odds on him throwing a touchdown in the Owl. If things stay the same, no idea who wins MVP – split if 4 ways for the Seattle D-Line? Kicker MVP?
Probably jinxed it now Seahawk fans, sorry!”
Well wait just a second Mr Lee!

TOUCHDOWN! Seahawks 19-7 Patriots, 12:27 4th quarter
What? Two completed passes and a touchdown? Maye hits Hollins on the far side of the field for a touchdown! Holly Molly! Is this football?

We have a fan on the field and it sucks that we can’t see it! It’s probably better than anything we’ve seen so far!
Also, here’s Gervase Greene.
“Unfortunately, what this game needs to bring it alive is Matthew Stafford, whose last quarter against Seattle two weeks ago was an all-time great effort against the tide, the odds and the gods. Maye is no Stafford, unfortunately. (And that said, Stafford’s Rams still lost. But still…).”
When you think about the Rams performance against this defense, they get a lot of extra credit now! Clearly that was the real Super Bowl.

TOUCHDOWN! Seahawks 19-0 Patriots, 13:24 4th quarter
Darnold finds Barner in the far corner of the end zone! We have a Super Bowl Touchdown and what must be an insurmountable lead for Seattle!

Seahawks 12-0 Patriots, 13:45 4th quarter
From the Pats 37, Walker runs right for just a yard.
Then we have a play action pass into the endzone towards Kupp, incomplete.
Now Seattle are in the red zone after a Kupp catch for nine yards and a first down.
They’re in business!

Defense!
I know Seattle has a good defense but New England are making them look like Sandy Koufax. It’s been really disappointing from Vrabel so far, I thought he would have more up his sleeve.

Seahawks 12-0 Patriots, end of 3rd quarter
Darnold finds Barner for 10 yards and a first down as the third quarter domes to a close.
Right now it seems like there’s two questions left to be answered:
Will we see a touchdown in the Super Bowl? Even just one?
And will we have the first shutout in Super Bowl history?
It’s a bit grim to be honest.

TURNOVER! Seahawks 12-0 Patriots, 0:10 3rd quarter
It’s 3rd & 5.
Maye in the shotgun, he’s hit, the ball is on the ground and Murphy has it for Seattle!
That’s the first turnover of Super Bowl 60, at a terrible time for New England!
Share
Seahawks 12-0 Patriots, 0:57 3rd quarter
Maye, loads of time, he’s indecisive, now he runs for a few yards and there is a flag! It’s on the defense for holding! That’s a first down for the Pats, their first, first down this half!
This quarter is almost over – NE need a sense of urgency. They should run a no-huddle to try and get Maye in some kind of groove.

Seahawks 12-0 Patriots, 1:55 3rd quarter
Christian Gonzalez breaks up another pass. What a game he’s having. Meanwhile, some news, Smith-Njigba heads to the locker room for a possible concussion.
And Seattle can’t move the ball and punt. How about the punters for co-MVPs? Their legs may fall off!
New England take over at their 27.
Can they make some noise? Please?

Pete Bradbeer asks this relevant question:
“What will it take to for a kicker to be MVP? All the points in Superbowl?”
Great question – I’ve been pushing Myers for MVP. I think hell will freeze over before they do that, but five field goals would put at least some pressure on the league to do so.

Seahawks 12-0 Patriots, 3:38 3rd quarter
Maye finds Hollins at the 33, so that sets up a 3rd & 4. Maye in the shotgun, he fires over the middle to Boutte but it’s a little ahead of the receiver and the ball falls to the turf.
That’s another bad throw from the kid, who looks like a kid.
Oy vey.
Here comes the punt – Shaheed, not messing around, calls for a fair catch at the 46. Good field position for Seattle, as NE go three and out for the sixth time in their last seven drives.

Smith-Njigba
He heads to the tent to be looked at – something with his foot. Meanwhile, Maye is sacked by Murphy as Seattle continues to dominate on defense.

Seahawks 12-0 Patriots, 5:10 3rd quarter
OK well here come Seattle looking for a fifth field goal. It’s a play action fake to Walker but Darnold is sacked! It’s Milton Williams who makes the play. It’s 2nd & 18 now.
Darnold, a quick throw to Smith-Njigba, it’s complete but a very short gain.
It’s 3rd & 14 and Walker strolls up the middle for a few yards, and so now they will have to punt. That makes sense – play the field position game, don’t throw a pick-six and just punt it away. No brainer really.
And so they do. The return is good, but there’s an illegal block wiping out a 19-yard return by Jones.
Whoops. So they will start at the 27.

Pretty sure Hunter ran that through AI, no way he could have come up with that on his own. Anyway, they didn’t score a touchdown. Now what, Hunter?

Seahawks 12-0 Patriots, 7:34 3rd quarter
Now Henderson goes up the middle in a bid for a first down, but he is stuffed! Come on – a bit more creative please!
It’s 3rd & 1.
Maye is in the shotgun – he has time, which is great, but the throw is lousy. It’s incomplete near Douglas.
So it’s a punt, caught fairly at the 18th.
This has to change! Will it change?

Seahawks 12-0 Patriots, 8:38 3rd quarter
New England starts at their own 32. Maye pitches to Henderson, near side, for a run of about nine. Not bad! I like it!

FIELD GOAL! Seahawks 12-0 Patriots, 9:12 3rd quarter
Darnold fires incomplete to Kupp. So it’s a very big 3rd & 9 play coming up.
The Pats blitz, the QB fires to the near sideline, it’s incomplete! The Pats hold!
Here comes Myers, who nails a 41-yard field goal, his fourth of the game.
So it’s a two-score game still, which is good for NE, but they have to take some chances and try to open this thing up some. It’s not too early to press that button.

Seahawks 9-0 Patriots, 9:23 3rd quarter
The Seahawks take a timeout as the play clock was about to expire. New England can catch their breath.
The Pats cannot let them in the end zone, obviously.

Seahawks 9-0 Patriots, 10:01 3rd quarter
Walker makes a rare catch on the near sideline and he has ROOM! Walker breaks out down the sideline for 20 massive yards. Seattle is at the NE 23! A real bona fide drive here.

Seahawks 9-0 Patriots, 11:39 3rd quarter
Now Darnold finds Smith-Njigba on a crossing pattern. Is that…rhythm?
Wait, Darnold is running, and it’s a gain of 11. Wow! Seattle is across midfield! Darnold with the motor!
Share
Seahawks 9-0 Patriots, 12:39 3rd quarter
Shaheed is open over the middle! Great throw from Darnold! It’s a gain of 16 for a first down to their 27. Big play there.

Seahawks 9-0 Patriots, 14:02 3rd quarter
Maye has time, but his wide receiver Boutte is actually out of bounds and Jobe had him wrapped up anyway. So here comes another punt as the Pats fail on yet another third-down conversion attempt. Punt – Seattle start at their nine.
New England’s defense is going to have to do this on its own. The Pats need to unleash the ghosts on Darnold.

Seahawks 9-0 Patriots, 14:20 3rd quarter
Maye floats a pass towards Douglas on the near sideline, but it’s incomplete. But now Stevenson turns a corner on the near side – a gain of eight. It’s 3rd & 2! That’s doable!

We’re back!
We’re going to be back very soon. I had some leftover pizza, it was OK. And my sons’ leftover acai bowl. That was better. But I’m ready fore some points! Are you?
New England will start at their 31.

Stats
Maye has passed for 48 yards, Darnold for 88. Walker is basically the Super Bowl 60 offense with 94 yards. Seattle are a few key plays from Gonzalez and an overthrown ball by Darnold from blowing out the Pats, but yet, they’re only down 9-0.
I can’t wait to see what kind of adjustments Vrabel makes and how the Pats respond.
OK, I’m gonna go watch Bad Bunny, hit the head and eat something. See you when play resumes! Stick with us!

Seahawks 9-0 Patriots, end of half
Maye takes a knee and that will do it for the first half.
NBC grabs the coaches before they head to the break.
Vrabel:
“We have to do a much better job doing playing complimentary football…we missed too many tackles, we gave them too many edges.”
Macdonald:
“We’re doing a good job at taking care of the ball which is good, Sam’s doing a good job.”
There was more but I can’t type that fast. Basically they both think they need to do better. It’s a common theme amongst coaches.

FIELD GOAL Seahawks 9-0 Patriots, 0:11 2nd quarter
Darnold has time and has Smith-Njigba in the end zone but Gonzalez makes another amazing play at the last second to break it up! Wow! That’s potentially game-saving!

So here comes our old friend and MVP candidate Myers who slots the 41-yard field goal. It’s good. Huge two-score lead for Seattle.

Seahawks 6-0 Patriots, 0:21 2nd quarter
The call stands, the pass to Kupp was incomplete.
So Seattle can go for the end zone and take a shot, but I would not play around right now if I were Mike Macdonald. I would take the field goal and say thank you very much.
Timeout New England as they continue to ice Bad Bunny.

Seahawks 6-0 Patriots, 0:15 2nd quarter
Darnold from the shotgun, did he find Kupp for a short reception? No, he dropped it, but he almost caught it. Whatever, it’s better for Seattle that he dropped it because it stops the clock.
But they’re looking at it to review if it’s a catch or not.
