Written and directed by Anderson, One Battle After Another is inspired by the novel Vineland by Thomas Pynchon. Leonardo DiCaprio stars as Bob Ferguson, a burnt-out revolutionary living off the grid with his young daughter, Willa (Chase Infiniti). Sean Penn plays Steven J. Lockjaw (Sean Penn), a racist army colonel who once targeted Bob and his lover, Perfidia Beverly Hills (Teyana Taylor). When Lockjaw returns after 16 years, he hunts down Willa, forcing Bob out of hiding and sending him on a relentless pursuit to save his daughter.
DiCaprio, Penn, Taylor, and Benicio del Toro all received Oscar nominations for their respective performances, with Penn taking home the crown for Best Supporting Actor.
Released in September 2025, One Battle After Another grossed $209 million on a rumored budget between $130 million and $175 million. The film garnered significant critical acclaim and holds a 94% on Rotten Tomatoes.
