Xiaomi has launched its new wearable, the Watch S5, in China. This succeeds the Watch S4 from last year and brings some notable upgrades. It comes in a thin, lightweight body that weighs just 46 grams (excluding strap). The smartwatch flaunts a 1.48-inch AMOLED display that can reach a peak brightness of up to 2,500 nits in certain conditions. The smartwatch features a crown and a physical button on the right edge.
Xiaomi Watch S5 features an AMOLED display and accurate heart rate tracking
The Xiaomi Watch S5 has a dual-frequency GNNS chip for improved location accuracy and speed. It uses a new four-light, four-PD sensor setup, which is claimed to deliver 98.4% heart rate accuracy. As for other health monitoring, the Watch S5 gets a calorie counter, pedometer, sleep monitoring, blood pressure monitoring, blood-oxygen level tracking, menstrual cycle tracking, and fall detection.
There’s also 24-hour stress monitoring, which proactively reminds you to relax when stress remains too high. It offers a breathing relaxation function with multiple breathing relaxation modes. The Xiaomi Watch S5 offers an upgraded sleep algorithm 2.0. This features an updated sleep stage model that results in 11% improvement in sleep onset and wake detection.
The Xiaomi Watch S5 supports more than 150 sports modes, including cycling, swimming, running, and more. It also supports auto-start for workout detection. The smartwatch features a 1.48-inch AMOLED display with 480 X 480 pixels, 323 PPI, 1,500 nits full panel brightness, and, as said, 2,500 nits peak brightness.
Up to 21 days of battery
The list of on-board sensors include heart rate sensor, an acceleration sensor, a gyroscope, a geomagnetic sensor, a barometric pressure sensor, and an ambient light sensor. The Xiaomi Watch S5 is compatible with devices running Android 8.0 or above and iOS 14 and later versions. As for the dimensions, it measures 46 x 46 x 10.99mm and weighs about 46 grams. The wearable ships with a 5ATM water-resistance rating.
The Xiaomi Watch S5 packs an 815mAh battery, which is claimed to last up to 21 days on casual use and 9 days with always-on display enabled. There’s an eSIM variant, which lets you do certain things like making calls, without your phone. Much like other products from the tech giant, this also closely integrates into Xiaomi’s ecosystem.
