A mysterious new Amazfit smartwatch has just cleared regulatory approval in Malaysia under model number A2550. While the official filing reveals little detail, the timing suggests it may be linked to the rumoured T-Rex Ultra 2, or possibly a new variant of the Active Max.
The case for Ultra 2 is growing, but unconfirmed
SIRIM, Malaysia’s device certification authority, published the A2550 approval about a week ago. On January 26, to be exact. The product is listed simply as a “smart watch,” which doesn’t narrow things down much. But the model number itself offers a few clues.
A2550 is not linked to any existing Amazfit watch. Numerically it is close to A2557, which corresponds to the recently launched Amazfit Active Max. That’s might imply that this could be a regional variant or second size of that device. It’s possible.
But the more interesting theory is that this may be the first regulatory appearance of the T-Rex Ultra 2. Zepp Health tends to file model certifications around a month or two ahead of launch. And Ultra 2 chatter has started to pick up. If A2550 is tied to the T-Rex line, the timing fits well.
Earlier leaks supports the T-Rex Ultra 2 theory
There’s already been a fairly detailed leak pointing to T-Rex Ultra 2. A spec comparison shared online suggests this new model will retain the rugged DNA of its predecessors but with some key upgrades.
The most notable change is the introduction of a MicroLED display, replacing the AMOLED panel used previously. If this turns out to be accurate, it would be a major change. And something that would undercut Garmin Fenix 8 Pro MicroLED watch quite a bit in price.
Other expected additions include satellite messaging support, which would be another a first for Zepp Health. A move to a titanium alloy body is also expected, which would bring it in line with premium outdoor watches from other brands. So some nice upgrades there.
The same leak points to a price range between $499 and $549, along with standard features like dual-band GPS, offline maps and military-grade durability. That package fits well with the sort of device that would require regulatory clearance under a new model code like A2550.
And let’s not forget our own teardown of the Zepp Health app. This revealed internal references to Ultra 2, several of them. This further backs the idea that the company is close to launch.
The timing adds up. Mobile World Congress kicks off in Barcelona in a few weeks (March 2–5, 2026), and Zepp Health has used that event before to showcase new hardware. A release next month would match the original T-Rex Ultra launch window almost exactly. Watch this space.
