Version 3.39.0.4 is now live for the Amazfit Balance 2, and it’s a solid update. It adds workout audio alerts, route planning, better third-party music controls and Helio Strap swim tracking support. All in all, an interesting update.
Route planning finally arrives
Arguably, the headline news this time around is the addition of route planning support. You can now plot routes on Balance 2, follow them during your activity and get positioning cues as you go. Paired with the improved map visuals and interactions, it’s a clear upgrade for outdoor use.
Granted it’s not as advanced as what you’ll find on a high-end sports watch, but it’s a useful addition. This is actually one of the standout features on the T-Rex 3 pro. Hopefully it will also be coming to the T-Rex 3.
To access the feature you will need to look in the Zepp Health app. Under the “Training” tab, there’s a route creating option at the bottom.
Workout alerts now speak up
Another addition is workout audio alerts. Just like on Amazfit Active Max, these can now play through the watch speaker or via connected Bluetooth headphones, giving real-time feedback without needing to check the screen. You’ll find the toggle under Settings, then Workout, then Workout Alert. This could be useful for interval training, pace cues or zone reminders. Having tested it on Amazfit Active Max, the sound comes through loud and clear.
On the topic of workouts, this firmware brings support for heart rate tracking during swimming when paired with the Helio Strap. Until now, optical HR tracking in water hasn’t been reliable. This pairing allows users to get cleaner swim data and sync it back into the Zepp Health app.
Other performance tweaks include improved Zepp Coach training plans and reduced system interruptions during diving sessions. Notifications and power handling have also been refined.
And there’s a new logic for the lower physical button. A double-press is now disabled during workouts and stopwatch sessions to prevent accidental inputs.
Alongside that comes a bump to the Music app. There’s now better support for third-party audio sources, so you can switch between them more smoothly. This will help anyone who runs or trains with multiple audio apps.
Vibration tweaks and feedback improvements
There’s also a small improvement to how the watch vibrates during workouts. The feedback has been tuned to be more noticeable and cleaner during alerts. This should help users who rely on the watch’s haptics when they’re not using sound.
That’s it for this round. The Balance 2 keeps getting better. While none of the changes are huge on their own, together they make the device a bit more useful.
