Early life and background

Aakarshi Kashyap was born on 24 August 2001 in Bhilai, Chhattisgarh. Raised in the same city, she attended Delhi Public School in Rajnandgaon and later studied at Seth RCS Arts & Commerce College and Hemchand Yadav University in Durg, where she completed a Bachelor of Arts. Her father, Sanjeev Kashyap, is a dermatologist; her mother is Amita Kashyap, and she has a younger brother named Shreyash.

Kashyap began playing badminton at the age of eight while at school. Recognising her interest in the sport, her family supported a move into formal training. She started coached sessions under Sanjay Mishra at Ravi Shankar Stadium in Durg in 2009 and later joined the Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy in Bengaluru in 2016. By 2016 she was winning national junior titles and progressing through India’s junior representative ranks.

Aakarshi Kashyap has built a competitive career across junior and senior levels. Early international exposure included representing India at Asian U15 and U17 junior championships in Kudus, Indonesia, where she earned a bronze medal. Domestically she claimed twin crowns in both U-17 and U-19 girls’ singles at the 25th Krishna Khaitan Memorial All India Junior Ranking Tournament in 2016 and followed with wins in the U-17 and U-19 events at the 42nd Junior National Badminton Championship in 2017.

Her run of successes continued into senior competition. In January 2018 she played a lengthy match at the Yonex-Sunrise All India Senior Ranking tournament in Bengaluru. She won the Yonex Sunrise All India Senior Ranking tournament in Vijayawada in 2019. Internationally, her medal record includes gold at the South Asian Games in 2019 and victory in the women’s singles at the Kenya International in 2020. Kashyap has also stood on the podium at events such as the Bulgarian International (silver) and the Uganda International (silver).
