Aakash Gupta Biography

Aakash Gupta is an Indian stand-up comedian, actor and YouTuber who rose from college theatre and improv to national recognition as co-winner of Comicstaan

Early life and background
Aakash Gupta was born on 5 January 1993 and grew up in New Delhi, India. He attended Sumermal Jain Public School before going on to Shaheed Bhagat Singh College at the University of Delhi, where he completed a Bachelor of Commerce between 2010 and 2013. During his college years he developed a strong interest in theatre and performed in plays, including a production based on Shaheed Bhagat Singh. He was part of the college theatre society Natuve and later joined Kaivalya Plays, an improvisational comedy group.

Career
Gupta’s early career blended conventional work with creative pursuits. In 2013 he worked as an auditor at KPMG in Gurgaon while performing at open mics around Delhi by night. He also interned at a radio station, acted in plays and participated in documentary shoots during this period. After a year with an improv community group and several open-mic appearances, he began writing his own material and moved gradually from improv to stand-up.

He started uploading comedy sketches to his YouTube channel in 2017, with his first sketch posted on 27 April and his first stand-up video uploaded on 12 June of the same year. Early sketches included pieces titled Manhoos Man, Shared Cab, Drunk Beta and Career Looters. As his online audience grew he began getting paid spots, hosting opportunities and stand-up bookings, eventually choosing to pursue comedy full time, though he has said he misses theatre and acting.

Gupta’s online presence was recognized with YouTube milestones: he earned the Silver Play Button on 11 September 2018 and the Gold Play Button on 22 July 2020. His profile rose further when he appeared on the second season of the Amazon Prime stand-up competition Comicstaan, which premiered on 12 July 2019. He was among the strongest performers across the season and finished as co-winner alongside Samay Raina. Following Comicstaan, Gupta mounted a mini-tour across India with his solo show Excuse Me Brother.

Style and approach
Trained in performance arts, Gupta is known for combining physicality and acting skill with sketch-based and observational comedy. His background in improvisation informs his stagecraft, and he has described the transition from team-driven improv to individually written stand-up as a major shift in how he prepared material. He has also worked in sketch formats alongside stand-up, regularly uploading performances to his channel that blend acting and comedic timing.

Public profile
Aakash Gupta’s career spans theatre, improv, sketch comedy, stand-up and digital content. He is listed as 1.63 m (5 feet 4 inches) tall with black hair and black eyes. He is Indian by nationality and follows Hinduism. His favourite actor is cited as Robin Williams. Gupta has acknowledged a fear of dogs (cynophobia). He is a non-vegetarian and lists hobbies including swimming, trekking and theatre.
