Aakriti Rana was born on 5 July 1991 in New Delhi and grew up partly in Pune. She completed a Bachelor of Commerce at Symbiosis College of Arts and Commerce, Pune (2009–2012) and went on to earn an MBA. Her father, Rajesh Rana, served in the Indian Army; her mother, Sushma Rana, died in 2020 after a prolonged illness. Aakriti has a younger brother, Aditya Rana, who works as a commercial pilot.

Aakriti began participating in college beauty pageants and won a pageant in 2009. Early in her working life she spent time in an advertising agency and took on roles as a part-time graphic designer and freelance photographer.
