Early life and background

Aata Sandeep was born on 17 June 1984 in Hyderabad, then part of Andhra Pradesh and now in Telangana. He grew up in a middle-class family and spent part of his childhood in Kakinada, where his interest in dance was evident from a young age. As a student he frequently performed at school events, imitating the steps of favourite film stars and taking part in annual functions.

After completing his schooling, Sandeep moved with his family to Hyderabad. His parents gave him a choice between pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Computer Applications and a formal dance course; he chose dance and began training seriously. The Indian choreographer K. Sivasankar served as one of his early gurus.

Career

Sandeep built his career initially as a dance instructor and choreographer in the Telugu film industry. He choreographed numbers for several films, with credits that include work on Leader (2010), Pawanism (2014), Jagannatakam and InduVadana (2022). He also won the TCEI Award for Best Choreographer in 2019 and received a certification from director K. Raghavendra Rao in 2017.

He first reached a wider public audience in 2007 when he appeared as a contestant on season 1 of the dance reality show Aata on Zee Telugu. He and co-contestant Tina Sadhu won that season, and the victory contributed to his professional moniker, Aata Sandeep.

Beyond choreography for films, Sandeep expanded into digital content. He launched a YouTube channel called Aata Sandeep Dance Master in April 2011, where he posts choreography clips, recipe videos and glimpses of his daily life. By 2023 the channel had grown to more than one million subscribers and earned a Silver YouTube Play Button. He also produced and acted in short films, including the 2015 short Aa Gang Repu and its 2017 sequel Aa Gang Repu 2- The Gang Next Day, in which he played the role of a kidnapper and took on production responsibilities.

On television he remained an active presence in the reality circuit. In 2022 he competed on the dance show IshmartJodi alongside his wife, Jyoti Raj. The following year the couple won the Star Maa dance reality show Neethone Dance. He has appeared on other reality and game-format programs as well, including Maharani Celebrity Game Show and Bigg Boss Telugu Season 7 in 2023.

Sandeep also made the transition to feature films as an actor, debuting in the 2023 Telugu film Love You Too in the role of Surya. He continues to perform on stage at events and award shows and has been featured in various television commercials.

Sandeep operates a dance academy in Hyderabad named Sandeep Steps Dance Academy, where he teaches styles such as Bollywood, Jazz and Hip Hop, and offers online classes to students across regions. He and his wife have shared dance videos together on social media platforms including Instagram, where he is active. Sandeep is married to actress and choreographer Jyoti Raj; the couple married on 29 May 2013 and have a son named Lekhan. His parents are Tamarapalli Murthy, who passed away in 2020, and Devi Tamarapalli. He is nicknamed Sunny and Dance Master, and stands approximately 170 cm (5 feet 7 inches) tall with black hair and black eyes.
