Abdullah attended Harvard Grammar High School in Sialkot and later studied at Punjab College Haji‑pura. He comes from a Gurjar background and was raised Muslim.
His interest in cricket began very early. He started playing at age three and practiced shadow batting with a plastic bat as a child. His father recognized his aptitude and enrolled him in Sialkot’s Aamir Waseem International Cricket Academy. At 16 he produced strong performances in domestic under‑19 competition, including two centuries in one season, which earned him a place in Pakistan’s under‑19 setup.
Career
Abdullah is a right‑handed top‑order batsman who also bowls right‑arm off break. He plays domestic first‑class cricket for Central Punjab and has been associated with Balochistan. In franchise cricket he has been part of Lahore Qalandars and Multan Sultans; Multan Sultans acquired him in the 2018 Pakistan Super League draft in November 2017.
He made a striking first‑class debut in December 2019 for Central Punjab in the Quaid‑e‑Azam Trophy, scoring 133. In September 2020 he debuted in domestic T20s during the 2020–21 National T20 Cup and converted that opportunity into a hundred, finishing not out on 102 on debut.

In October 2023 he made his ICC Cricket World Cup debut against Sri Lanka in Hyderabad, scoring 113 off 103 balls and contributing to Pakistan’s record chase in a World Cup match.
His record list includes several distinctive firsts and extremes: he was the first Pakistani to score centuries on both his first‑class and T20 debuts, and he became the first Pakistani to score a century on his World Cup debut. He is also noted as the second player in the world to hit centuries on both first‑class and T20 debut alongside India’s Shivam Bhambri. On the other side of the ledger, he recorded four consecutive ducks in men’s T20 internationals across different matches.
