Early life and backgroundAbhay Manoj Jodhpurkar was born on 31 July 1991 in Sendhwa, Madhya Pradesh. Raised in a Marathi family with a musical lineage, his paternal grandfather was a Hindustani classical vocalist. Abhay began singing as a young child and by age five was participating in competitions, going on to win several at the national level.
While studying engineering at SRM Institute of Science and Technology in Chennai, he decided to pursue music alongside his degree. He enrolled part time at A. R. Rahman’s KM Music Conservatory during his second year and continued his musical training there as he completed a B.Tech in Biotechnology.
Career
Abhay’s early professional credits include singing for films in several regional industries. His recorded debut in Kannada came with the film Godfather (2012), and in Tamil with Konjam Koffee Konjam Kaadhal (2012). He sang in the Tamil film Kadal (2013), which brought him wider attention when A. R. Rahman chose him to sing the duet "Moongil Thottam". Over the following years he contributed vocals to projects in Telugu, Marathi, Malayalam and eventually Bollywood.
