Early life and background
Abhay Kumar Sharma was born on 5 July 1997 in the village of Gordiha in Sonbhadra district, Uttar Pradesh. Raised in a Hindu family, he attended Sri Hanuman Prasad Poddar Andh Vidyalaya in Varanasi before moving on to higher studies at Banaras Hindu University, where he completed a BA (Hons.) in Political Science. Abhay has spoken publicly about growing up blind and the social challenges he faced while proving his abilities as a student and performer.

Career
Abhay began his media journey after graduation in 2016 by training as an RJ at Radio 90.8 FM – Aap Ki Aawaz. He later joined the non-profit organisation Utsav Trust and, in 2021, took on the role of the organisation’s president. Abhay’s early live performances included a 2017 show in Jabalpur titled Divyango Ki Shaam, Swachchta Ke Nam.

He first came to national attention through reality television. In 2017 he reached the grand finale of The Great Indian Laughter Challenge on StarPlus, becoming one of seven finalists. He continued to pursue televised opportunities, appearing on India’s Got Talent in January 2022 and competing on India’s Laughter Champion later that year. Abhay has described stand-up comedy as his calling and expressed gratitude for the platforms that have allowed him to showcase his skills.

On digital platforms he creates satirical and political comedy sketches and songs. Several of his YouTube uploads have drawn wide viewership, including a popular sketch titled Janta Ka Vaccine Tender and satirical videos made in collaboration with fellow comedian Shyam Rangeela such as UP Ka Vikas Dekha? and Jab Mile Yogi, Modi, Aur Akhilesh. In 2022 he released a political-satire song titled Jayegi Jumlebaz Sarkar and produced a sketch called IPL Aur Corona-Logy. He has been active in civic causes: during the farmers’ protests he publicly voiced support and in 2021 delivered a speech alongside farmer leader Rakesh Tikait. He has repeatedly called for greater representation of differently-abled citizens in legislative bodies and said he has petitioned the Prime Minister for reserved parliamentary seats to improve policy inclusion.

Abhay also serves as a visible figure at cultural events; in 2021 he gave the opening address at the Banaras Film Festival and was invited as the chief guest for the inauguration of BS Film Academy.

Known for sharp political satire and mimicry, Abhay combines topical commentary with musical and sketch formats. He has collaborated frequently with Shyam Rangeela and has described his ambition to succeed on merit, stating he does not want sympathy because of his disability. Earlier in life he had aspired to become an IAS officer and has also mentioned a personal interest in cricket and sports commentary, dreams he said were limited by his visual impairment.
