Early life and background

Abhijeet Khandkekar was born on 7 July 1986 in Pune, Maharashtra. Raised in a Marathi-speaking household, he took part in NCC activities during his school and college years. From an early age he was drawn to anchoring and presentation, interests that helped shape his move into media and performance.

Career

Khandkekar began his media career as a radio jockey at Radio Mirchi in 2006, a role he held for roughly a year before leaving in 2007. He transitioned into on-screen work after taking part in the Zee Marathi talent show Maharashtracha Superstar in 2009. That exposure led to his television break: from 2010 to 2011 he played Abhijeet Pendse in the Ekta Kapoor-produced drama Maziya Priyala Preet Kalena on Zee Marathi.

He made his film debut in 2013 with the Marathi feature Jai Maharashtra Dhaba Bhatinda, and continued to build a varied screen résumé. In 2014 he was cast as the lead in Mamachya Gavala Jaaoo Yaa, followed by a part in the political drama Dhol Taashe in 2015. His film credits through the later 2010s include Dhyanimani (2017), Bhay (2018), Me Pan Sachin (2019), and the Sanjay Dutt production Baba (2019). He has also been associated with the 2022 releases Dharmaveer and Baal Bhaarti.

On television, Khandkekar became widely known for his role as Gurunath Vasant Subhedar in Majhya Navaryachi Bayko, one of the longer-running Marathi serials, which earned him multiple nominations and awards. He played Lavdya Malhar Kamat as the lead in the Star Pravah show Tuzech Mi Geet Gaat Aahe in 2022. He has worked across formats, appearing in the MX Player series Idiot Box in 2020 and taking a supporting role in the Hindi crime thriller Duranga on ZEE5 in 2022.

Beyond screen acting, he has performed on stage, appearing in the play Pati Gele Ga Kathewadi in Mumbai in 2017.
