Abhishek Chatterjee was born on 30 April 1964 in Baranagar, West Bengal, India. He grew up in that region, attended Baranagore Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama High School and later graduated from Seth Anandram Jaipuria College under the University of Calcutta. He was an Indian national and maintained a straightforward public persona; his hobbies included travelling and singing.

Career

Chatterjee made his screen debut in Bengali cinema in 1986 with Pathbhola, a film that established him among a generation of new actors. Over the following decades he worked steadily in Tollywood, accumulating credits in more than 50 Bengali-language films. Some of his notable film appearances include Amar Prem (1989), Indrajit (1992), Bangali Babu (2002), and Rajkumar (2008). His work in the 1990s brought him recognition as a lead actor, and the Anjan Choudhury–directed Indrajit is noted as a career milestone.
