Abhishek Jain (Director) Biography

Gujarati filmmaker Abhishek Jain is a writer, director and producer known for playing a major role in the revival of contemporary Gujarati cinema. Born and

Early life and background

Abhishek Jain was born on 3 August 1986 in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. Raised in a Marwari Jain family, he attended Trinity English School in Ahmedabad and went on to complete a BBA at BK Majumdar Institute of Business Administration in 2006. He then pursued a filmmaking degree at Whistling Woods International in Mumbai, combining formal business and film education before beginning his professional career in cinema.

Jain developed an early interest in performance and storytelling, taking part in theatre as a child. After film school he gained hands-on experience in Mumbai by assisting established filmmakers and working on feature films and advertising projects, which helped him learn both craft and production practices.

Career

After returning to Ahmedabad from Mumbai, Jain worked as a radio jockey at Radio Mirchi while laying the groundwork for his film career. In 2010 he co-founded CineMan Productions with Mikhil Musale and Anish Shah. The company started by producing television commercials and advertising films and later expanded into feature films, distribution and digital content with the aim of strengthening Gujarati cinema.

Jain made his directorial debut in Gujarati cinema with Kevi Rite Jaish (2012), a film that became a breakthrough for him and enjoyed a long theatrical run. He followed that success by writing, directing and producing Bey Yaar (2014), which travelled beyond India to screens in over a dozen countries and sustained an extended presence in Indian theatres.

His work has been recognized with regional awards: he received Best Director for Kevi Rite Jaish in 2012 and later won additional awards for Best Director and Best Story at Gujarati industry ceremonies. Bey Yaar earned Best Director and Best Film accolades at the Transmedia Gujarati awards, and films he produced through CineMan have continued to attract both audience and critical attention.

In 2015 Jain published a book recounting his experiences making his first two urban Gujarati films, sharing insights into his process and the challenges of building contemporary regional cinema.

CineMan Productions partnered with Phantom Films in 2016 on a slate of Gujarati projects, and the collaboration produced Wrong Side Raju (2016), directed by Mikhil Musale and later honored with a National Film Award. Jain has both produced and directed work across formats since then, including Gujarati web series for OHO Gujarati such as Riverfront Stories (2021) and Missing (2022).

He has also directed and produced more recent Gujarati features, including Maaran (2025) and Manch (2026). At various points in his career he was attached to a Hindi remake of the Kannada film Kirik Party (2016) but subsequently left that project.

Public profile

Jain has been active beyond writing and directing: he helped launch OHO Gujarati, an OTT platform aimed at Gujarati audiences worldwide, and CineMan Productions now handles production, distribution, marketing and OTT content for regional projects. His growing profile in Indian cinema has led to invitations to serve on juries; he has been part of selection panels for national festivals and awards, including roles connected to IFFI, the National Film Awards and India’s selection process for the Academy Awards.

Personal life

Abhishek Jain is married to Shaily Jain, a dentist; the couple wed on 17 February 2012 and have two children. He comes from a family involved in the film world: his elder brother, Nayan Jain, is a producer. Jain is listed as approximately 5 feet 11 inches (180 cm) tall, with black hair and black eyes, and is noted to have a tattoo on his right hand.

Latest updates

In recent years Jain has continued to focus on Gujarati cinema across film and digital platforms. His credits include directing and producing the regional series Riverfront Stories (2021) and Missing (2022) for OHO Gujarati, and the feature films Maaran (2025) and Manch (2026). He remains engaged in production, distribution and content strategy for CineMan and the OHO Gujarati platform while participating in national-level film juries and selection committees.
