Abi Mehdhi Hassan was born on 4 September 1997 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Raised in a family with strong ties to the Tamil film industry, he is the son of actor Nassar and producer-turned-politician Kameela Nassar. He grew up in Chennai and left formal schooling after class 10 to pursue a career in films. Abi later completed a diploma in acting at the Blue Ocean Film and Television Academy (BOFTA), where his father served as head of the acting department.

Career

Abi first appeared on screen as a child actor in the 2012 film Sun Sun Thatha, credited as “Abi.” After studying acting at BOFTA, he worked behind the camera as an assistant to director Atlee Kumar on the 2017 film Mersal. Following a period without steady work, Abi returned to films as an adult with a role in the 2019 thriller Kadaram Kondan, in which he portrayed the character Vasu Rajagopalan. The part marked his transition from child actor and crew member to a credited on-screen performer in mainstream Tamil cinema.

Public profile

Abi is known to prefer earning recognition on his own merits rather than relying on his family name. Though he has acknowledged pride in being Nassar’s son, he has said he does not want to trade on that association and would rather work toward making his own place in the industry. He has expressed admiration for actor Vikram and has cited him as an influence, praising Vikram’s versatility and commitment to transforming for roles.

Politically, he is identified with Makkal Needhi Maiam. As of the information available in this profile, he is unmarried.

Family

Abi is part of a film-oriented family. His father, Nassar, is an established actor and his mother, Kameela Nassar, has worked as a producer and later entered politics. He has brothers Noorul Hassan Faizal and Luthfudeen, the latter also active as an actor.
