Early life and backgroundPrashant Tripathi, known publicly as Acharya Prashant, was born on 7 March 1978 in Agra, Uttar Pradesh. He grew up in a household where reading and study were important; he has described himself as an introverted child who developed a deep appetite for classical and spiritual literature at an early age. He earned a National Talent Search Examination scholarship during his school years.
Academically he followed a path through two of India’s premier institutions. He completed a B.Tech at the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi in 1999 and went on to pursue an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, which he completed in 2003.
Career
Acharya Prashant’s professional life began in the corporate sector after his post‑graduation. He worked as an assistant manager at GE Capital in Gurgaon for over a year, then served as a senior consultant at ECS Private Limited. In 2005 he joined Bennett, Coleman and Co. Ltd in New Delhi as a senior manager and resigned in 2006.
While working in industry he began teaching on weekends, developing a course called “Perspective in Leadership through Literature” for MBA students. In 2006 he founded a private company, Advait Life Education, to deliver life‑education courses and student and management development programmes across educational institutions. He personally lectured widely, traveling to colleges in different cities and delivering interactive sessions from 2008 onward.
In 2010 Acharya Prashant began leading residential camps in the Himalayas, introducing groups of 25–30 people to extended experiential programmes lasting several days. In 2011 he started recording his live talks and uploading them to a YouTube channel, increasing the reach of his teachings. He has taught at institutions including IIT Delhi, the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Symbiosis, and Institute of Management Technology.
In December 2015 he established the PrashantAdvait Foundation, a non‑profit organization created to challenge falsehoods in individuals and society and to promote a combined scientific and spiritual approach to life. Through the foundation he developed online courses centered on Advaita Vedanta, exploring numerous interpretations of the Gita and the Upanishads. The foundation has organized Vedanta courses for a range of premier Indian institutions, including IIT Delhi, IIM Ahmedabad, IIT Kanpur, IIT Bombay, NIT Jamshedpur, and Banaras Hindu University.

Acharya Prashant is a prolific writer and teacher. He has authored more than 85 books on spiritual themes. One of his books, Karma: Why Everything You Know About It Is Wrong, reached Nielsen Bookscan’s top position in August 2021 and later appeared on a bestseller list published by The Asian Age.
