Career
Music was Adarsh Gourav's first creative pursuit. He trained in Hindi classical music for nearly a decade at Suresh Wadkar’s Ajivasan academy and participated in singing competitions when he was young. During his school and college years he started bands—Steepsky in school and Oak Island in college—and his music work was at one point featured on a television music show. He also worked as a playback singer early in his career.
Acting entered his life after a chance moment on stage when he was a teenager. He learned acting at The Drama School in Mumbai and gained practical theatre experience performing in plays directed by Raell Padamsee; he also served as a director at the drama school. His first on-screen work came as a child actor, with an appearance in the 2010 film My Name Is Khan playing the younger version of the protagonist.
As a young adult he continued to build a screen résumé with roles in independent and mainstream projects. He appeared in short and feature films such as Madly (2016) and Rukh (2017), and had a part in the Bollywood film Mom (2017). He featured in web series and digital projects including Die Trying (2018), Leila (2019), and Hostel Daze (2019).
Gourav reached a wider international audience with his lead role in the 2020 Netflix adaptation of Aravind Adiga’s novel, The White Tiger, appearing alongside established actors in that production. His performance in that film brought recognition on the festival and awards circuit: in March 2021 he received the Rising Star Award from the Asian World Film Festival and earned a leading actor nomination at the BAFTAs.
Alongside film and streaming work he has remained active in commercials, having appeared in more than fifty television advertisements for brands including Airtel, Cadbury, Domino’s, Hotstar, and Nescafe.
