Adhuna Akhtar was born on 30 March 1967 in Liverpool, England, to a Bengali father and an English mother. She spent her childhood in Liverpool and attended Rainford High School. From a young age she was drawn to salons, accompanying her mother to appointments and developing an early fascination with hair styling.

At sixteen she left formal schooling to pursue hairdressing. Adhuna completed a three-year apprenticeship at Worthington Hair in northwest England and soon after won an under-21 national junior hairstyling championship. She then worked with established industry names, including Wella, Toni&Guy and Vidal Sassoon, holding roles such as technical specialist and training at a Wella partner academy in London.

Career

Adhuna moved to Mumbai as a guest stylist at the Oberoi Hotel in 1994. In 1998 she and her brother Osh Bhabani opened a salon called Juice in Mumbai. The business was rebranded to BBLUNT in 2004, a name that reflected their family surname and the straightforward approach they aimed to bring to clients.

Her first major film work came with Dil Chahta Hai in 2000, where she served as the film’s hairstylist and created distinct looks for the principal actors.
