Early life and background

Aditi Gopichand Swami was born in 2006 and grew up in Satara, Maharashtra. Her father, Gopichand Shankar Swami, worked as a mathematics teacher at a government school, and her mother, Sehla, was employed with the local gram panchayat. She has a younger brother. Aditi’s family made deliberate choices to support her sporting ambitions, including relocating closer to better facilities so she could train regularly.

Her introduction to archery came as a child when she observed archers setting up targets at Shahu Stadium in Satara. She began formal training under coach Pravin Sawant at an academy that trained in modest conditions. Early training routines were disciplined: she practiced for a few hours on weekdays and extended sessions on weekends. Her father encouraged her interest by exposing her to videos of accomplished archers and by arranging for appropriate equipment as her talent progressed.

Career

Aditi’s competitive rise has been swift. At the 36th National Games in 2022, held in Gujarat, she won the compound women’s individual gold. That year she also competed at the Archery Asia Cup in Sharjah, where she helped the Indian compound women’s team to gold and took silver in the individual compound event.

In 2023 Aditi performed strongly across junior and senior international competitions. At the World Archery Youth Championships in Limerick, Ireland, she captured gold in both the under-18 individual compound and the under-18 team compound events. Later that year she stepped onto the senior world stage at the World Archery Championships in Berlin. Competing in the compound women’s category, she defeated Mexico’s Andrea Becerra in the final to claim the individual gold and added a team gold as well. That victory marked a historic milestone for India at the event.

Aditi and her teammates also reached the podium at other major events in 2023. The squad secured a bronze medal in the compound women’s team event at the Archery World Cup. At the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou, she was part of the team that won gold in the compound women’s team competition, and she earned an individual bronze in the women’s single compound category.
