Early life and background

Aditya Gadhvi was born on 3 April 1994 in Surendranagar district, Gujarat. Raised in a family rooted in folk music, he grew up surrounded by singers; his father, Yogesh Gadhvi, is himself a folk singer and served as chairperson of the Gujarat Sangeet Natak Akademi. His mother also comes from a family of folk artists. Aditya attended St Kabir School and later studied at St Xavier’s College in Ahmedabad. He also trained at the KM Music Conservatory.

Career

Aditya emerged on the public stage as a youngster. He won the Gujarati singing reality show Lok Gaayak Gujarat on ETV in 2004, which led to frequent bookings for folk concerts and Navratri events across Gujarat. During his college years he won the title "Voice of Xavier" in a St Xavier’s College singing competition.

His repertoire is rooted in Gujarati folk and Sufi music. Aditya has released and performed a number of popular Gujarati tracks including Sad Karu Lya Aavje Sami (2013), Hansla (2015), Vitthal Vitthal (2020), Bhajan Vina Mari Bhukh Nai Bhange (2021), and Aavi Rudi Ajwaali Raat (2022). His song Moj Ma Rahvu was ranked third on the Ahmedabad Times list of Best Gujarati Singles of 2018.

Aditya has worked beyond Gujarati music as well. In 2013 he sang two tracks for the film Kamasutra 3D—Har Har Mahadeva and Aigiri Nandani—composed by Sachin and Sreejith; those recordings were later shortlisted for Oscar consideration. He has sung for Tamil films, contributing songs such as Marhaba Aavona (Saravanan Irukka Bayamaen, 2017) and Adchithooku (Viswasam, 2018). He also provided backing vocals for composer A. R. Rahman on several live shows and collaborated with Rahman on background score work for the film Lekar Hum Deewana Dil (2014).

On the live front, Aditya has performed across India and internationally in cities including Dubai, Hong Kong, Toronto, and Mississauga. He sang for Gujarat’s tableau during the Republic Day parade on 26 January 2015, and he performed at the opening ceremony of the Indian Premier League in Hyderabad in 2017. He also recorded the theme song for the IPL team Gujarat Titans when the franchise debuted in 2022.

Aditya is known for his fluent use of Gujarati, Hindi, and Marathi in performance. His work has been recognized with several awards: the Hemu Gadhavi Award at the Transmedia Awards (2014), a GIMA award for Best Traditional Folk Single for Hansla (2015), a Young Achiever Award at the MyFM Entrepreneur & Excellence Awards (2017), the Top Music Award for Best Folk Song Haji Kasam (2018), a Best Music Award at the Transmedia Awards (2019) for a TV title song, and Best Folk Singer for Tourism at the Tourism Awards (2022) for his YouTube series Dhanya Dhara Gujarat. He was also honored with the Times Men of the Year Award in 2018.

Aditya maintains a self-titled YouTube channel where he posts singles and performance videos; the channel has more than three lakh subscribers. In 2018 he gave a TEDx talk at Laxmi Vilas Palace in Vadodara. High-profile moments in his public life include performing in front of dignitaries during the 2015 Republic Day event and sharing a stage with A. R. Rahman on multiple occasions. While promoting the film The Sky Is Pink in 2019, actress Priyanka Chopra attended one of his concerts and joined in the celebrations.

Aditya is unmarried. His immediate family includes his father Yogesh Gadhvi, mother Aratiben Gadhvi, and a sister named Jahnvi Gadhvi. He is commonly referred to by nicknames such as Kaviraj and Adi.
