Early life and background

Aditya Srivastava was born on 21 July 1968 in Allahabad (now Prayagraj), Uttar Pradesh. He grew up with a strong interest in acting and became involved in theatre during his college years at Allahabad University. While still a student he performed with a local group, Sangeet Samiti in Civil Lines, Allahabad.

In 1989 he moved to Delhi and joined the Shri Ram Centre for Performing Arts, expanding his stage experience before relocating to Mumbai in 1995. The move to Mumbai also led him to work as a voice-over artist for commercials and promos alongside his acting pursuits.

Career

Aditya Srivastava’s on-screen career began in television. His early TV work included the series Dera (1992) and Shesh Prashna (1993), and he appeared in a 1994 episode of Byomkesh Bakshi. His film debut came with a role in Bandit Queen (1994), and he followed with parts in Sanshodhan (1996) and several other Hindi films.

A notable early film appearance was as Inspector Khandilkar in Satya (1998), a performance that drew attention from industry creators. That visibility led to his casting on the long-running police procedural C.I.D., where he initially signed on for a limited run but whose character, Senior Inspector Abhijeet, would become central to the series. He played Abhijeet from 1998 until the show’s conclusion in 2018, becoming widely identified with the role.

Alongside C.I.D., Srivastava continued to work in films and television. He appeared in Dil Se.. (1998), Saathiya (2002), Black Friday (2004) and played roles in Anurag Kashyap’s Paanch (2003) and Lakshya (2004). He took his first lead film role in Dil Se Pooch... Kidhar Jaana Hai (2006) and also worked in regional cinema, including Tamil films Naalai (2006) and Aalwar (2007).

His later film work includes supporting and ensemble roles in Raat Akeli Hai (2020) and Bheed (2020). He earned several nominations and awards for supporting and ensemble performances, including recognition at the Indian Telly Awards, Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards, Filmfare OTT Awards, IWM Digital Awards, and FOI Online Awards for various projects through 2023. He also narrated the historical TV drama Peshwa Bajirao in 2017 and appeared in the TV series CIF in 2019.
