Aditya Rashmi Uddhav Thackeray was born on 13 June 1990 in Mumbai. He grew up in the city that remains his home and attended Bombay Scottish School before moving on to St. Xavier's College for a Bachelor of Arts and then KC Law College for a law degree. He belongs to the Chandraseniya Kayastha Prabhu (CKP) community and follows Hinduism.

He is the son of Uddhav Thackeray and Rashmi Thackeray and the grandson of Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray. His immediate family also includes a younger brother, Tejas Thackeray.

Career

Aditya Thackeray entered active politics in 2010 when he joined Shiv Sena. Later that year he launched the party's youth organisation, the Yuva Sena, and was appointed its president. Under his leadership the Yuva Sena set up units in multiple Indian states, including Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala, Bihar and Jammu and Kashmir.

Over the next decade Aditya rose within the party structure. In 2018 he was named a leader of Shiv Sena and became a member of its National Executive Body. The party selected him to contest the 2019 Maharashtra Assembly elections from the Worli constituency in Mumbai, marking the first time a member of the Thackeray family stood for elected office.

On 24 October 2019 he won the Worli seat by a margin of 67,427 votes. A few months later, on 30 December 2019, he was sworn in as a Cabinet Minister in the Maharashtra government, becoming the youngest minister at cabinet rank in the Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi administration.

Outside formal politics, Aditya has been involved in creative and entrepreneurial pursuits. He published a collection of poems in 2007, and in 2008 he contributed as a lyricist to a private music album that featured several established singers. He has also been associated with business activities, and his public profile includes an interest in writing, travel and cricket.
