Early life and background

Aditya Yadav was born in 2010 in Bichhiya, Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh. She grew up in a family with strong badminton connections: her father, Digvijay Nath Yadav, works as a badminton coach with the North Eastern Railway and has been an important influence on her sporting life. Aditya has two siblings, a brother named Aviral and a sister named Pallavi. As of 2023 she was continuing her middle school education in Gorakhpur.

Aditya was identified with a hearing impairment at a young age. Her family explored treatment options but ultimately continued to support her development through sport and family-led coaching. From around age five she began playing badminton and used the resources available to her — including practicing by hitting a shuttlecock against a wall when formal facilities were limited — to build her game.

Career

Aditya’s competitive journey started early. She entered national competition as a child and by 2019, at around nine or ten years old, she had already won state-level events and become the first female player from India to take part in the Deaf World Championship in Chinese Taipei that year.

Her list of domestic honours includes victory at the Yonex Sunrise Hamish Infrastructure Uttar Pradesh State Championship in 2019 and a gold medal in the Uttar Pradesh Games of the Deaf singles event the same year. In 2022 she claimed the PNB MetLife Junior Badminton Championship title, among other national junior and sub-junior successes.

Breakthrough on the international stage came at the 2022 Deaflympics in Brazil, where Aditya was part of the Indian team that won gold in the team championship. The team defeated Chinese Taipei in the semi-finals and Japan in the final. That year she also won multiple medals at the Asia Pacific Deaf Youth Badminton Championship, including a gold in Under-21 girls doubles, a silver in singles and a bronze in mixed doubles.

Aditya continued to add to her international résumé in 2023, earning medals at the Junior World Deaf Championships: gold in women’s doubles, bronze in women’s singles, and additional silver medals in team events at the 3rd edition of the tournament in July 2023.

Throughout her development she has been coached by Sanjit Pradhan and guided closely by her father, who has described her disciplined practice routine that included hours of daily training split between local stadiums and academy sessions.

Aditya’s achievements have drawn public recognition and support. In June 2022 she received a cash incentive of Rs. 5 lakhs from Akhilesh Yadav. The Clean Slate Foundation sponsored her training from 2022 through 2024, providing equipment, coaching support and nutritional assistance.

Her ascent in deaf-badminton has attracted attention from peers in the sport; during a tournament in Delhi, leading Indian shuttler P. V. Sindhu offered advice and encouragement to Aditya and her family about nurturing her talent.
