Early life and background

Afshan Anjum was born in New Delhi and grew up there. She attended Delhi University and later took a course in broadcast journalism at Cardiff University in Wales, supported by a Chevening Scholarship during that program. She holds a BA (Hons) degree in Journalism. Afshan comes from a family that includes two elder brothers; one works as a scientist at the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology and the other is in business. Afshan began her career in sports journalism in January 1999 when she joined Aaj Tak as a sports correspondent based in New Delhi. In January 2003 she moved to NDTV as a sports news editor and became a familiar face hosting daily sports round-up programming such as Khel India/Googly.

Her profile rose further when she co-hosted the sports show Kissa Cricket Ka alongside former cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu in 2008.
