Afshan Azad was born on 12 February 1989 in Longsight, Manchester, England. She is of Bangladeshi descent and grew up in the Manchester area. Azad attended Whalley Range High School before studying at Xaverian College in Rusholme and then the University of Salford, where she completed a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Design. She is a British national and her faith is Islam.

Career

Azad made her film debut as Padma Patil in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005), a role she continued to portray across subsequent entries in the franchise: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007), Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2009), Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1 (2010) and Part 2 (2011). The character became widely recognised and was later made into a Pop! vinyl toy.

Outside of the films, Azad has worked in media and creative roles.
