Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar Biography
Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar is an Indian air rifle shooter from Madhya Pradesh who has won medals at junior and senior international events, set national-
Early life and backgroundAishwary Pratap Singh Tomar was born on 3 February 2001 in Ratanpur, Khargone district of Madhya Pradesh. He grew up in a family with agricultural roots; his father, Veer Bahadur Singh, is a farmer and his mother is Hema Tomar. Two sisters, Tanvi Ajit Singh Kushwah and Apurva Tomar, are part of the household. Tomar’s early exposure to shooting came through relatives who shot competitively; his cousin Navdeep Singh Rathore competed at the international level and inspired Aishwary to try the sport.
He began formal training in 2015 at the Madhya Pradesh Shooting Academy in Bhopal under coach Vaibhav Sharma. That first year brought a setback: a technical equipment issue led to a suspension from national competition and required him to rebuild his standing through state and pre-national events. Despite this challenge, Tomar established himself quickly, winning national junior events and progressing onto the international stage.
Career
Tomar competes in both 10 m air rifle and 50 m rifle three-position disciplines and has represented India at junior and senior levels. Early in his international career he set a national junior record in 2018 with a score of 1173 in the 50 m rifle three-position event at the Meeting of Shooting Hopes in the Czech Republic. He followed that with a world-record qualifying performance in Beijing in 2019, where he scored 459.3.
His medal record includes gold at the 2019 ISSF Junior World Cup in Suhl in the 50 m rifle three-position, and another senior-level gold at the 2021 ISSF World Cup in New Delhi in the same event. He also won team silver in the 10 m air rifle at the 2021 ISSF World Cup in New Delhi and multiple bronze medals: at the 2019 Asian Shooting Championships in Doha (individual and team 50 m three-position), at the 2019 Asian Airgun Championship (Junior 10 m air rifle in Taoyuan), and a mixed-team bronze at the 2021 ISSF World Cup in New Delhi.
Tomar’s progress earned him international recognition: in 2021 the International Shooting Sport Federation ranked him world No. 2 in air rifle. He was selected to represent India at the Tokyo Olympic Games (the 2020 Olympics held in 2021) and continued to compete at top-level events thereafter. His national and state-level achievements were acknowledged by awards from his home state and the country, including the Eklavya Award from the Government of Madhya Pradesh in 2019 and the Arjuna Award from the Government of India in 2023 (presented on 9 January 2024).
Coaching and approach
At the Madhya Pradesh Shooting Academy Tomar was coached initially by Vaibhav Sharma and later worked under national coach Suma Shirur. Coaches describe him as calm under pressure, intensely focused, and willing to undertake the stamina-heavy preparation required for three-position events. He developed his basics at the academy, expanded from 10 m events into 50 m pistol events, and is noted for steady temperament and a methodical approach to training.
Public profile
Tomar’s public image centers on his competitive achievements and measured demeanor on the firing line. He has been open about the practical challenges of pandemic-era preparation; during the COVID-19 lockdown he trained on fitness and dry-fire exercises at home until special permission allowed access to equipment. Support from state authorities helped him secure necessary gear during that period.
Outside the range he enjoys cycling and playing cricket. He has shared anecdotes about lighthearted teasing over his name but maintains a focused commitment to his sport.
Latest updates
Tomar’s international results from 2019 through 2021 include multiple World Cup and continental medals, a junior world title, and a world ranking rise to No. 2 in air rifle. He received the Eklavya Award in 2019 and was honoured with the Arjuna Award in 2023, which he formally received in January 2024. He continues to represent India in 10 m and 50 m shooting events and trains at the Madhya Pradesh Shooting Academy.
