Ajay Gogavale Biography
Ajay Ashok Gogavale is an Indian music director, composer and singer best known for his work in Marathi cinema, including the breakout Sairat and its Hindi
Early life and backgroundAjay Ashok Gogavale was born on 21 August 1976 in Alandi, Pune, Maharashtra. He grew up in several villages across Maharashtra because his father’s job required frequent transfers. His early schooling took place near Pune, and music took root while he was still a child. Financial constraints in his family made access to instruments difficult, but he and his elder brother Atul pursued music together from a young age. Their father later gifted them a keyboard while they were in college, which helped them develop their composing and arranging skills.
Career
Ajay began his professional musical journey alongside his brother Atul. The brothers moved to Mumbai after finishing their education and started composing jingles, songs for television serials, and small albums. Their first notable recognition came for music composed for a drama series directed by Kedar Shinde. A significant early film opportunity arrived in 2004 when they worked on Ram Gopal Varma’s Gaayab.
Over time the duo established themselves in Marathi cinema with a string of memorable songs, including contributions to the film Aga Bai Arechaa. Their songwork for the 2008 film Jatra included the track Kombdi Palali, a composition that later was adapted into a widely known Hindi number. The brothers expanded into Bollywood, contributing music to films such as Singham, PK and Brothers. They also provided background score work for national presentations.
Ajay’s career reached a major high with the 2016 Marathi blockbuster Sairat. The songs composed for that film were created during a period spent composing in Los Angeles and became major hits, raising the profile of the composers significantly. In 2018 the brothers worked on Dhadak, the Hindi adaptation of Sairat, where they reintroduced the popular Sairat track Zingaat and collaborated with singers including Shreya Ghoshal.
Public profile
Ajay has been recognized with awards for his work: a National Award in 2010 for the Marathi film Jogwa, the BIG FM Best Playback Singer Award in 2010, and the Zee Cine Best Background Score Award in 2013 for Agneepath. He has served as a judge on the Marathi version of the reality show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa. His work spans Marathi cinema and Bollywood, and he and his brother have been credited in both industries.

Ajay is married and has two children, a son and a daughter. His father, Ashok Gogavale, worked in the revenue department. His brother Atul is also a musician and long-time creative partner. Ajay’s religion is Hinduism and his political inclination is noted as being with the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena.
