Ajay Singh was born on 29 December 1965 and raised in Central Delhi, in the Maharani Bagh area. He attended St. Columba’s School in New Delhi, where he was active in sports and captained his school’s cricket and hockey teams. Singh completed a Bachelor of Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, followed by a law degree from the University of Delhi and an MBA in Finance from Cornell University. While at Cornell he served as president of the university’s India Association.

Career

Singh began his professional life working in his family’s businesses in real estate and fashion accessories after returning from Cornell. He moved into public service and administration in the late 1990s, including a board position with the Delhi Transport Corporation and a role as officer on special duty in the Information and Broadcasting ministry, where initiatives under his tenure included the launch of new channels for Doordarshan.
