Early life and background

Akash Singh was born on 7 September 1997 in Bhagalpur, Bihar. Raised in a small community, he developed an early interest in dance and gravitated toward acro and aerial forms that combine classical technique with demanding acrobatic elements. Resources were scarce in his village, so he improvised to practice the aerial moves he loved, often training on trees to recreate the height and support needed for his routines.

He completed his schooling in Sabour, Bihar, and went on to study commerce at Marwari College, Bhagalpur, under Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University, earning a Bachelor of Commerce degree. His family includes his father, Raj Kishore Singh, who worked as a driver, his mother Pushpa Devi, a homemaker, a brother named Ravi Singh, and at least one sister.

Career

Akash moved to Mumbai in 2018 to pursue aerial dance professionally. With very limited funds when he arrived, he continued his unconventional training methods—practising near a tree by a beach in Mumbai—and supplemented his experience by performing as a backing dancer at exhibitions and award shows. Over time he refined his acro-aerial skill set and worked with professional tutors to expand his repertoire.

In 2022 Akash auditioned for the Hindi-language reality talent show Hunarbaaz – Desh Ki Shaan. Selected to compete, he performed before judges Mithun Chakraborty, Parineeti Chopra and Karan Johar. During his initial appearance on the show he spoke about the hardships he had overcome; his performances and steady improvement through the competition won him strong support from the live audience and the judges.

Akash continued to advance through the rounds, improving technically and connecting with viewers. The grand finale took place on April 17, 2022, where he was declared the winner of Hunarbaaz. For his victory he received the winner’s trophy and a cash prize of Rs. 15 lakh. Following the finale he expressed gratitude to the judges and COLORS for the opportunity and said the win fulfilled the dream with which he had come to Mumbai.
