Akash Singh Biography

Left-arm fast-medium bowler from Rajasthan who rose through youth cricket to join IPL franchises.

Early life and background
Akash Maharaj Singh was born on 26 April 2002 in Nagla Ram Ratan village, Bharatpur, Rajasthan. He grew up in a rural household; his father worked as a farmer and his mother was a homemaker. Cricket entered his life early thanks to his elder brother Lakhan, who played at district level and encouraged him to pursue the sport.

Akash began formal training at Shardul Sports School in Bikaner and later moved to Jaipur in 2014 to train under coach Vivek Yadav at the Aravali Cricket Club. That move marked a turning point in his development as a young fast bowler.

Career
Akash Singh is a left-arm fast-medium bowler who bats right-handed. He made his name in age-group cricket and on the domestic circuit before being recruited by Indian Premier League teams. In local cricket as a teenager he produced a remarkable performance in November 2017, taking all 10 wickets in a T20 match without conceding a run, a feat that brought him wider attention.

He represented India at youth level, including appearances in the 2019 ACC Under-19 Asia Cup where his three wickets in the final helped India clinch the title. Akash was also a member of India’s squad for the 2020 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup, finishing the tournament with seven wickets in six matches and an economy rate of 3.81 as India finished runners-up.

On the domestic front he has played for Rajasthan at state level. His performances in youth internationals and domestic matches led to IPL interest: Rajasthan Royals purchased him at his base price of INR 20 lakh ahead of the 2020 IPL season. Although he did not feature in any matches that year, he trained with the squad and gained exposure to senior coaches and fast-bowling mentors.

In the IPL auction held in Dubai on 19 December 2023, Akash was sold to Sunrisers Hyderabad for INR 20 lakh for the 2024 season.

Public profile
Physically, Akash is listed at 172 cm (1.72 m / 5'8") with black eyes and black hair. He is identified in records as Akash Maharaj Singh and is noted for a bowling style that combines pace with the ability to bowl sharp in-swingers.

Alongside his on-field work, Akash has emphasized fitness; media reports note he follows a disciplined regimen and has stated he avoids fast food.

Controversy
Following the final of the 2020 Under-19 World Cup, video footage captured an on-field altercation involving players from both teams. An ICC investigation found Akash Singh and another Indian player in breach of the Code of Conduct; they were sanctioned for a Level 3 offence as part of the committee’s findings.

Personal life
Public records describe him as unmarried. He has two sisters and one brother, Lakhan, who played a formative role in introducing him to cricket. He attended Shardul Sports School before progressing to training in Jaipur under Vivek Yadav.

Latest updates
In December 2023 Akash Singh was acquired by Sunrisers Hyderabad at the IPL auction for INR 20 lakh ahead of the 2024 Indian Premier League season. He remains uncapped at senior international level and continues his development through domestic cricket and franchise exposure.

Akash’s trajectory from a village in Bharatpur to IPL squads reflects a steady rise through India’s youth pathways, driven by early coaching, standout local performances and appearances in age-group international tournaments.
