Early life and backgroundAkshat Ajay Sharma was born on 3 October 1989 in Raipur, Madhya Pradesh. Raised in a family where education played a role—his father is Dr. Ajay Sharma, a professor—Akshat completed his schooling at Saraswati Shishu Mandir Higher Secondary School in Raipur. He went on to study Electronics and Communication Engineering at Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT), graduating with a B.Tech. He later pursued formal film training with a Master of Arts in Filmmaking from Annapurna College of Film and Media in Hyderabad.
Career
Akshat’s creative career spans directing, writing, editing, acting and theatre. After a brief period in the tech industry as a Programmer Analyst Trainee at Cognizant in 2011, he moved steadily into media and film. Early credits include technical and editorial roles on short films—he edited and wrote several shorts and worked as a sound editor on Zindgani: A Story Untold (2013).
In the mid-2010s he held a variety of production roles: art director on the short Parabola (2014), first assistant director on Ali’s Letter (2014), and assistant director on projects such as the video Honor (2014). He served as second assistant director on the feature Mukkabaaz (released as The Brawler) in 2017 and on the anthology film Lust Stories in 2018. He also worked as creative assistant director on the 2018 film Husband Material (Manmarziyaan).
Akshat expanded into television and larger productions as a second unit director for multiple episodes of the TV series Sacred Games (2019) and as second unit director on the 2020 film AK vs AK. He has held senior assistant roles as well, including chief assistant director at Avk Web Productions in 2020 and creative assistant positions with other companies.
As a director, Akshat has a substantial short-film portfolio that includes Zindagaaani (2013), 1.618 (2013), Parabola (2014), Padya Yatra: A Revolutionary Walk (2017) and Token (2019).
