Akshay Jaywant Bodake was born on 7 August 1998 in Pune, Maharashtra. Raised in the city he still counts as his hometown, he completed his higher secondary education at M.E.S. Bhave High School in Pune. Sports were part of his upbringing: his father, Jaywant Bodake, has experience as an international kabaddi player, and Akshay has a younger sister.

Physically, Akshay stands around 1.67 m (5 feet 6 inches) and his athletic build has supported his career as a professional defender. He has black hair and black eyes and maintains fitness through regular gym work and outdoor activities.

Career

After finishing school, Akshay moved from Maharashtra to Gandhinagar, Gujarat, to pursue structured kabaddi training at the Sports Authority of India (SAI). That formal training helped him transition from state-level competition to a national platform.

He has represented Maharashtra in several national competitions and has also played for Pune University in intercollegiate events. Akshay came to wider attention in 2022 when he took part in Season 9 of the Pro Kabaddi League as a defender for the Patna Pirates, wearing jersey number 33.

In 2023 he continued competing across regional and national tournaments. In April 2023 his club, Chetak Sports Club Balewadi, finished second in the Men’s Open Group Kabaddi competition organized by Shri Balvikas Sports Mandal. That same year he played in the Yuva Kabaddi Series representing Maharashtra and was part of teams that recorded wins in the competition.

Ahead of Pro Kabaddi League Season 10 he was signed by the Bengal Warriors for a reported fee of 13 Lakhs. However, in November 2023 Akshay underwent surgery on his left knee and was ruled out of PKL Season 10. He explained on social media that despite efforts to play without surgery, recovery required the operation and prevented him from participating that season.
