Early life and background

Akshay Kelkar hails from Kalwa in Thane, Maharashtra, and grew up in the Thane area. He studied at Sahkar Vidya Prasarak Mandal Secondary School in Kalwa and later completed a degree in Commercial Arts from L.S. Raheja School of Art in Bandra. Kelkar has said he originally aspired to work as an art director and spent time working as an assistant art director in the Marathi film industry before moving into acting.

Career

Kelkar made his television debut in the Marathi serial Be Dune Daha in 2013, appearing as Kabir. Following that early break, he secured roles in Marathi serials such as Kamala, in which he played Uday Deshpande, and Yek Number. He has also taken lead and supporting roles on the big screen, including the protagonist in the film College Cafe (2016) and a part in Avdhoot Gupte’s Kanha, a film tied to the Dahi Handi festival. His filmography also lists the Marathi title Madhuri.

Beyond regional television and film, Kelkar expanded into Hindi television. He played the lead in the Colors TV serial Nima Denzongpa, which ran from August 2021 to September 2022.
