Akshay Kumar was born Rajiv Hari Om Bhatia on 9 September 1967 in Delhi, India. Raised in a Punjabi family, he spent his early years in Old Delhi before later living in Mumbai. He attended Don Bosco High School in Darjeeling and enrolled at Guru Nanak Khalsa College in Mumbai, though he did not complete a degree. From a young age he trained in martial arts, studying Taekwondo to black belt level and later learning Muay Thai in Bangkok. During his time abroad he supported himself with jobs including working as a waiter.

Career

Kumar entered films in the late 1980s and had a small on-screen appearance as a karate instructor before his first signed project. His first release as an actor was Saugandh (1991). Over the following decades he established himself across action and comedy genres, earning the nickname Khiladi Kumar for multiple films in the Khiladi series. He has also taken on double-role performances in several movies and explored hosting on television, including reality and stunt-based shows.

As a producer he made his producing debut with the film Joker in 2012.
