Alakh Pandey was born on 2 October 1991 in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh. He grew up in Allahabad and attended Bishop Johnson School & College. He enrolled in a BTech program in mechanical engineering at Harcourt Butler Technical University, Kanpur, but left college during his third year after deciding that engineering was not his calling.

Pandey’s early experiences included teaching local students while still in school. As a teenager he began giving tuitions and later worked at a training institute in Allahabad, where he taught for several years for a modest salary. In 2016 Pandey started a YouTube channel called Physics Wallah – Alakh Pandey, uploading free physics lectures aimed at school and competitive-exam students.
