Alana Rene Blanchard was born on March 5, 1990, in Princeville on the island of Kauai, Hawaii. Raised in a surfing family, she began learning to surf under the guidance of her father, Holt Blanchard, and was riding waves as a young child at Hanalei Pier. Blanchard made an early mark in competitive surfing. She debuted at the T&C Women’s Pipeline Championships in 2005 and won the shortboard division at that event the same year.
