Albinder Dhindsa Biography

Founder of Grofers (now Blinkit), Albinder Dhindsa is an Indian entrepreneur known for building and steering quick-commerce businesses.

Early life and background

Albinder Singh Dhindsa was born in Patiala, Punjab, and grew up in a Sikh household. He studied mechanical engineering at IIT Delhi between 2000 and 2004, then later pursued an MBA at Columbia Business School in New York from 2010 to 2012. His education combined technical training with a global business perspective that would shape his later work in logistics and consumer commerce.

Career

Dhindsa began his professional career working on transportation and logistics projects in the United States. From December 2005 to June 2007 he served as a transportation analyst at URS Corporation, and from 2007 to 2010 he was a senior associate at Cambridge Systematics, where he focused on logistics and supply-chain systems. During his MBA, he had a brief stint at UBS Investment Bank in mid-2011.

After completing his MBA he returned to India and joined Zomato in December 2011 as head of international operations, a role in which he worked on expanding the company’s presence overseas through to March 2014. In 2013, Dhindsa co-founded Grofers with Saurabh Kumar. The business began as a hyperlocal delivery platform and later narrowed its focus to grocery and pharmacy services.

Grofers experienced rapid early growth but also encountered operational and financial challenges. The company rebranded as Blinkit in 2021 and repositioned itself as a quick-commerce business. Zomato acquired Blinkit in 2022 and Dhindsa continued to lead the unit as CEO. His leadership through turnaround periods and the company’s evolution earned industry recognition, including awards that highlighted startup potential and his role in turning around Grofers after a slowdown.

In March 2025, Zomato changed its corporate name to Eternal. When Zomato’s founder Deepinder Goyal stepped down as group CEO on 21 January 2026, Dhindsa was named to take charge of key operating decisions for the company, reflecting his expanded responsibilities inside the group.

Public profile

Dhindsa has received several industry honors over the years: recognition among top startups and promising companies in the Delhi-Gurgaon region in 2014; a comeback award for reviving Grofers at the ET Startup Awards in 2018; and a Disruptor of the Year award at the CNBC-TV18 India Business Leader Awards in 2024 for his work with Blinkit. These acknowledgements have contributed to his profile as a founder and operator in India’s quick-commerce and food-tech sectors.

Personal life

Dhindsa is married to Akriti Chopra, a former senior executive at Zomato; the couple married in 2018. He maintains a public interest in reading, basketball, listening to French music, and spending time with family. Among his personal interests is a fondness for Royal Enfield motorcycles.

Latest updates

In the evolving leadership structure at Eternal, Dhindsa’s role broadened after the group CEO transition in January 2026, with responsibilities for key operating decisions being placed in his hands. His career continues to be tied to Blinkit’s quick-commerce operations and its integration within the larger food-tech group.
