Early life and background

Alhena Tanzil, known professionally as Alhena ADS, was born in Ooty, Tamil Nadu. Her parents are Ashref Ash, an entrepreneur, and Shyji Ashref, who runs the family’s dance academy and has worked as a dancer. Alhena grew up in a household where dance was central to family life and began training and performing at an early age.

She attended Unique Public School in Ooty. Her upbringing in Ooty and early exposure to dance through the family-run ADS Crew Ooty shaped her interest and commitment to performing arts from childhood.

Career

Alhena started dancing publicly when she was about six years old and developed through the ADS Crew Ooty, the dance academy operated by her mother. As a member of that troupe she has taken part in a range of stage competitions and television reality programs across Tamil-language channels.

Her televised breakthrough came in 2016 when she and partner Shajid reached the finals of Jodi No. 1 Season 9 on Star Vijay. The following year she appeared on Vijay TV’s Kings of Dance representing ADs Kids and finished as a winner with the team. In 2019 she and her team earned a bronze medal at the Indian Hip Hop Championship and went on to represent India at the World Hip Hop International Championship.

Alhena continued to compete on television with her sister Aishu ADS, appearing on Dance VS Dance Season 2 on Colors Tamil in 2021; the pair advanced to the semi-final round before elimination. In 2022 she won a talent-hunt competition, further adding to a string of competitive achievements.

Beyond contests, Alhena teaches younger students through ADS Crew Ooty, giving workshops and coaching children in her age group. On 16 March 2023 she launched a YouTube channel under the name Alhena ADS to share dance videos and performances with a wider audience.
