Early life and background

Ali Abbas was born on 11 February 1984 in Lahore, Pakistan. He grew up in a family with deep roots in the country’s entertainment and literary circles. His father, Waseem Abbas, is an actor, director and screenwriter; his stepmother is actress Saba Hameed. His extended family includes performers and writers such as Faris Shafi, Meesha Shafi, Inayat Hussain Bhatti and Hameed Akhtar. He attended the National College of Arts in Lahore, where he completed a course in film and television in addition to holding degrees in business administration and law (LLB).

Career

Ali Abbas entered the television world working behind the scenes. Early in his career he worked as a producer for the channel Style 360 and later moved into a program manager role. He spent nearly a year working in a law office before transitioning fully into media and performance.

His onscreen acting debut came in 2013 with a small role in a play. Over the following years he took on a range of television parts that increased his visibility in Pakistani drama. In 2014 he appeared as Irfaan in Ladoon Mein Palli, a series directed by his father. That year he was also seen in Susraal Mera on Hum TV.

Through 2015 and 2016 Abbas continued to take supporting and more prominent roles, including Dil Ishq (2015) and the well-received portrayal of Zarbab Khan in Tum Kon Piya (2016). In 2017 he appeared as Kamran in Ghar Titli Ka Par and took a lead role in the 2017 series Khaali Haath. His work in Ghar Titli Ka Par earned him a nomination at the 5th Pakistan Media Awards in 2019.

In 2019 Abbas played the lead role of Faham in Kahin Deep Jaley on Geo Entertainment. He followed that with several other notable projects: Naqab Zan (2018) on Hum TV, Ghisi Piti Mohabbat (2020) on ARY Digital where he played Basharat alongside cousin Ramsha Khan, Mere Apne (2021) on ARY Digital, Wafa Be Mol (2022) for which he received the Best Performance Soap Award at the 8th Hum Awards, and Guddu (2022) on Geo Entertainment. In 2022 he also appeared opposite Hina Altaf in the Hum TV series Agar as the character Muthair.

Beyond drama serials, Abbas appeared in a music video in January 2023, featuring with Imran Ashraf in the Punjabi song Tu Befawa, sung by Wally Sandhu.
