Early life and background

Ali Safina was born on 18 December 1983 in Multan, Pakistan, and later spent part of his childhood in Oman when his family relocated there. He completed his school education at Pakistan School Muscat and went on to study mechanical engineering at The Caledonian College of Engineering in Oman. While pursuing his degree he worked part time as a nightclub DJ, an early indication of his comfort with public performance and live audiences.

After finishing his engineering studies Ali returned to Pakistan and enrolled at the National Academy of Performing Arts in Karachi to refine his skills for a career in media and entertainment. He is a trained Taekwondo practitioner and was active in sports from a young age, having competed at state and national levels and won several medals.

Career

Ali began his professional life in front of the camera as a video jockey and television host. He worked on a number of talk shows and hosted programs including Milk Sheikh, Funny Talk Show and Hun Dass. His work as a VJ on youth-oriented channels earned him recognition and the title of a popular young male VJ while employed at AAG.

Transitioning into acting, Ali made his television acting debut in 2011 in the Geo TV comedy-drama Takkay Ki Ayegi Barrat, playing the character Taka. The role brought him wider public attention and led to parts in a range of serials across genres, including Aik Pal, Ab Kar Meri Rafugari, Aadat and Chupke Chupke, as well as the Ramadan hit Suno Chanda.

Having established himself on television, Ali moved into film. He made his cinematic debut in the 2015 Pakistani caper action thriller Jalaibee, directed by Yasir Jaswal, in which he played the character Bugga as a supporting lead alongside Danish Taimoor and Uzair Jaswal. In 2016 he appeared in Oye Kuch Kar Guzar, an online comedy film released on YouTube, portraying Shamsher Iqbaldin opposite Uzair Jaswal, Ushna Shah and Mahjabeen Habib.

Beyond acting, Ali has worked in television commercials and walked the runway for several designers. He is frequently invited to judge acting and dance competitions, reflecting his standing within Pakistan’s entertainment circles.
