Early life and background
Amala Paul was born on 26 October 1991 in Ernakulam, Kerala, and grew up in Aluva. She completed her schooling at Nirmala Higher Secondary School in Aluva and went on to graduate from St. Teresa’s College, Kochi, with a Bachelor of Arts in Communicative English. She comes from a Malayali family; her father was involved in business and theatre while her mother worked as a singer.

Amala entered cinema with the Malayalam film Neelathamara (2009), playing the role of Beena. She followed that with early Tamil work including Sindhu Samaveli (2010), and gained wide attention for her leading role in the Tamil film Mynaa (2010).
