Early life and background

Ambati Arjun was born Nagarjuna Reddy Ambati on 16 August 1986 in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh. Raised in a Telugu Hindu family, he completed his schooling in Andhra Pradesh and went on to earn a BTech degree in Computer Science. While at university he joined the National Cadet Corps’ Naval Wing and in 2006 was selected to take part in the Republic Day Camp in New Delhi, becoming a member of the NCC contingent that marched on Rajpath.

His family has ties to the film trade: his father, Chinna Subbareddy, worked as a film distributor and his grandfather was also involved in film distribution. Arjun grew up with a brother and a sister, both of whom later worked abroad.

Career

After graduating, Arjun began his professional life as a software engineer and worked with IT companies in Hyderabad and Bengaluru. After several years in the technology sector he left his job to pursue modelling and acting. As a model he appeared in commercials and fashion magazines, and featured in the Jogi & Jogan Calendar in 2014.

Arjun's on-screen career spans films, television serials, web series and a YouTube channel. His earliest film appearances include a role in the Telugu film Geethopadesam (2015) and the 2016 feature Arddhanaari, in which he played a transgender character. The latter earned industry recognition and the film received multiple Nandi Awards.

On television he took a lead role in the serial Agni Sakshi in 2017 and appeared in Devatha – Anubandhala Alayam (2020) as Aditya, a role that found a positive response from viewers. His film work continued with parts in Moodu Puvvulu Aaru Kayalu (2018), Ashwamedham (2019) and Sundari (2021), where his performance as Prabhu drew favourable critical notice. He also portrayed a police inspector in the ZEE5 web series NERD – Neither Either Really Dead (2019) and appeared in the web series Hello Guru Prema Kosame (2021).

Arjun has taken part in reality television as well: he and his wife were contestants on the dance show Ishmart Jodi in 2020, and in October 2023 he entered Bigg Boss Telugu Season 7 as a wildcard contestant.

Digital projects and public visibility

Arjun launched a YouTube channel in 2013 and, after renaming it ACT Originals in October 2020, produced several series including Love Per Square Foot, Second Shaadi and Achyuthanandana – House Husband. As of 2023 the channel had over 160,000 subscribers. He also appeared in a YouTube series titled Fear of Missing Out in 2022.

He earned a Nandi Award for Best Actor for Arddhanaari and won a Star Maa Parivaar Award for his work in Devatha – Anubandhala Alayam in 2022. The Hyderabad Times listed him among the city’s Most Desirable Men on TV, ranking him eighth in 2018 and eleventh in 2019.
