Amit Bhatt was born on 19 August 1972 in Saurashtra, Gujarat. Raised in Gujarat, he became involved in stage work at an early age and developed his foundation in performance through participation in local theatre. Those early years on stage led him into a career in Gujarati theatre where he appeared in productions such as Chaal Reverse Ma, Jaiye Parke Paise, and Leela Laher.

Bhatt transitioned from theatre to screen work and began taking small parts in Hindi television series in the late 1990s and 2000s. His television credits include appearances on shows such as CID, Khichdi, and F.I.R. He first reached a wider audience in 2008 when he joined the cast of the popular sitcom Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, portraying the character Champaklal Jayantilal Gada, often referred to as Bapuji.
