Early life and background

Amit Sial was born on 1 July 1975 in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. Raised in the same city where he attended Sheiling House School, he later moved to New Delhi for higher education. Sial completed a B.Com. (Hons) and went on to earn a Post Graduate Diploma in International Business. He also spent time studying in Melbourne at Swinburne University of Technology.

From an early age he decided to pursue acting, and as a child he resolved to build a career on stage and screen. He trained with the Theatre Action Group under Barry John and at 20 became involved in professional theatre; his first professional play in 1995 was Blood Brothers, directed by Barry John.

Career

Before committing to acting full-time, Sial worked in Delhi in a non-acting role as a franchise development director for a playschool company. He left that job in 2003 to focus on performance work. For a period he joined a friend's experimental performance group that merged jazz, rock and Indian classical dance, and he also ran a takeaway food centre in East Delhi to support himself.

Sial relocated to Mumbai in 2004 to pursue film and television work. His screen debut came in the 2006 film Hope and a Little Sugar, in which he played Ali Siddiqui. The film Love Sex Aur Dhokha (2010) brought him wider recognition; he portrayed a character named Prabhat in that project.
