Amritha Aiyer was born on 14 May 1994 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, and raised in Bengaluru, Karnataka. She comes from a Tamil-speaking family; her father is Gopal Aiyer and she has an elder sister, Priyanka Sivasubramaniyam. Amritha completed a Bachelor of Commerce at Saint Joseph's College of Commerce in Bangalore. During her school years she played basketball and developed interests that include reading, travel and cycling.

Career

After graduating, Amritha began working as a model and moved into acting with small parts in several films. Early appearances include brief roles in Lingaa and Tenaliraman (2014), Pokkiri Raja (2016) and Theri (2016). She also featured in the short film Highway Kaadhali in 2017.

Her first leading film role came in 2018 when she portrayed Malar in the Tamil drama Padaiveeran. That year she also played Thenmozhi opposite Vijay Antony in the Tamil film Kaali. Amritha continued to build her profile with a notable part in Atlee’s Bigil (2019), where she played Thendral, the captain of the Tamil Nadu football team.

In 2021 she appeared in multiple projects across languages. She played Thulasi in Vanakkam Da Mappilei, which released on the Sun NXT streaming platform, and Harini in the horror film Lift, which reached cinemas and later streamed on Disney+ Hotstar. That year she also featured as Sravani in the Telugu film Arjuna Phalguna and took part in the short film Buffoon Kadhal.

In 2022 Amritha played Abi in the Tamil film Coffee with Kadhal. Towards the end of 2022 it was announced she would appear in the Telugu superhero-adventure Hanu-Man alongside Teja Sajja, scheduled for 2024.
