Early life and backgroundAmritha Aiyer was born on 14 May 1994 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, and grew up in Bengaluru, Karnataka. She comes from a Tamil-speaking family; her father is Gopal Aiyer and she has an elder sister, Priyanka Sivasubramaniyam. Amritha completed a Bachelor of Commerce at Saint Joseph's College of Commerce in Bangalore. In school she played basketball, and she continues to maintain an active, fitness-focused lifestyle that includes yoga and cycling.
Career
After finishing her studies Amritha began working as a model and took on small acting parts in several films, appearing in titles such as Lingaa (2014), Tenaliraman (2014), Pokkiri Raja (2016), and Theri (2016). She moved into short films in 2017, featuring in Highway Kaadhali, and made her first leading appearance on television in the Asianet series Chempattu the same year.
Her first major film lead came in 2018 with the Tamil rural drama Padaiveeran, in which she played the role of Malar. That year she also portrayed Thenmozhi opposite Vijay Antony in Kaali. In 2019 she was cast to make her Kannada debut in Gramayana, but the project was halted. The same year brought wider recognition when she played Thendral, the captain of the Tamil Nadu football team, in Atlee's Bigil.
Between 2021 and 2022 Amritha expanded her filmography across Tamil and Telugu cinema. In 2021 she appeared as Thulasi in Vanakkam Da Mappilei, which released on the Sun NXT streaming service, and as Harini in the horror film Lift, which opened in theatres and later streamed on Disney+ Hotstar. She also worked in the Telugu film Arjuna Phalguna as Sravani, and appeared in the short film Buffoon Kadhal. In 2022 she played Abi in Coffee with Kadhal.
Amritha made her Telugu film debut in Red (2021) as Gayathri, and appeared in the Bollywood film Jawan (2023). In December 2022 it was announced that she would be part of the Telugu action-adventure Hanu-Man, slated for release in 2024 alongside Teja Sajja.
